Why the Lag

It is time to all get on the same page in terms of timeline. We have been presenting our journey on a lag. We’ve done this for several reasons.

  1. Our safety- While we are happy for our friends and family to track our progress with our awesome InReach tracker, as two women traveling in remote locations we don’t need everyone with access to the internet to know exactly where we are. This is one of so many reasons we love the connectivity and options our InReach gives us. From personal email and phones to social media, we can manage connectivity according to our needs.

Read about the time Delorme went above and beyond to cover our butts.
  2. Respect- Our route has involved a lot of, lets call it, “Friendly Trespassing.” Sometimes it is important to folks that you ask permission to cross their land and asking involves some cultural sensitivity. True campo Patagonian hospitality would put families out of food and home should too many folks move through. Kind of like the Wild Effect on the PCT.
If we proceed with respect and sustainable practices, such as LNT (leave no trace), and support the eco-conscious guides, who are often first responders and otherwise generally stewards of the land, the impact will be a positive one.
If you are looking for a long distance trail through the region check out the Greater Patagonian Trail.
  3. Story flow- It takes time to distill and share these stories. Each post takes many hours of writing which means finding connectivity, uploading pictures on spotty internet, time, and a certain headspace for the words. This means about once a month we hunker down in a town and write and eat recoup for almost a week.
Then the amazing MLE edits and sends it off to the whizz kid, Henry who translates.
We all owe a great big thank you to the team who bring it to you!

We patronize local businesses, using internet connectivity to upload pictures & write blogs.

We are taking advantage of the Southern Hemisphere winter to return home to restructure, coordinate, plan, fundraise, and invest in relationships. We are also working on sharing more widely, so we are using these months to do interviews, talks, and write for various other sources. You can follow it all on our FaceBook Page.

Thank you for following along and sharing. Your enthusiasm and support make it worth the effort. In the meantime, we are writing for outside sources and earning money to put into the rest of the hike. We have also gotten some requests for gear reviews and a few other write-up type things. What would you like to hear more about?

We’ll be back to South America and hiking again come November.

To all the mothers and nurturers; recognized, over To all the mothers and nurturers; recognized, overlooked, and missed,
🌲 HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY💐

Words by @drsuzannesimard
#findingthemothertree

". . . we know Mother Trees can truly nurture their offspring. Douglas firs, it turns out, recognize their kin and distinguish them from other families and different species. They communicate and send carbon, the building block of life, not just to the mycorrhizas of their kin but to other members of the community. To help keep it whole. They appear to relate to their offspring as do mothers passing their best recipes to their daughters. Conveying their life energy, their wisdom, to carry life forward."

-From the book 'Finding the Mother Tree: Discovering the Wisdom of the Forest'

I will always treasure hiking into Machu Picchu with my mom in 2017. 💚
